A couple of weeks ago, the internet went crazy when a picture of billionaire Warren Buffett sitting in a Subaru emerged. Many thought it was a sign of Buffett’s frugality, but it seems it was nothing more than a borrowed car.
Now, we get to see Mr. Buffett’s true taste in cars and it seems he prefers some luxury in his life, because he recently purchased a new Cadillac XTS! And, the sales pitch came from GM executive Mary Barra herself.
In an interview with Forbes, Buffett tells how he decided he needed a new car. He has always favored American brands and is one of GM’s largest shareholders, which he why he received a personal visit from Barra in May. Buffett picked her up in his 2006 Cadillac DTS and he asked her why a new Cadillac would be better for him.
“She really let me have it,” Buffett said. “She told me about 50 things that were better” than his 2006 DTS. “By the time we got to lunch—and it’s only 5 or 6 minutes—she sold me.”
After that meeting, Buffett sent his daughter to a Cadillac dealership to secure him a good deal. Originally Barra had suggested a CTS sports sedan, but the saleswoman at the dealership said an XTS would be a better fit, so that’s what he got.
And, in case you were wondering what he did with his 2006 Cadillac DTS, he donated it to Girls Inc., a charitable organization for girls.
We’ll take it as a good sign that if Warren Buffett buys a Cadillac that means General Motors is doing something great!
