When researching new cars, you have probably seen the term Top Safety Pick. While it sounds good, you might have wondered what it means. We’ll break down exactly what it takes to be a Top Safety Pick and what that means for your safety.
Last September, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), put the 2017 Cadillac XT5 through a series of tests to learn how well it would keep its passengers safe. It came through with a Top Safety Pick recommendation. To earn this, the XT5 had to receive the top “Good” rating in all tests including the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength test, and head restraints & seats tests. Finally, it earned a superior rating for front crash prevention.
“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” said Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness.”
Standard safety features on the XT5 include seven airbags. Buyers can enhance that basic safety with the Driver Awareness Package that comes with the Safety Alert Seat, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and more.
