New Year’s Resolution
Choosing a New Year’s Resolution is just the first step towards a new you — keeping your resolution is much harder. That’s why we at Crest Cadillac have created a list of ways to help you stick to your resolutions after the New Year. Whether you’d like to shed a few pounds or kick some bad habits, it’s important to have the right tools first.
Steps to keeping your resolution
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), one of the most important things to remember is to start small. Few people make radical life changes in one step. If you’d like to work out more in 2018, start by visiting the gym twice a week. Then you can work your way up to three days, then four, five, six, and seven after a while. Small changes are easier to manage, and they improve the likelihood of success.
Next, focus on one behavior at a time. Most psychologists agree that unhealthy behaviors are easier to fix as long as you don’t focus on more than one at a time. Concentrate on one thing at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Finally, talk about your experiences with friends and family. Even if you don’t know anyone who has the same resolutions as you, it’s a good idea to have a network of support. If you’d like to quit smoking, let your spouse, partner, or friends know about your successes and failures. Change is less intimidating with people behind you along the way.
