If you find you and your family is tired after stuffing yourselves full on Thanksgiving, here are some great Thanksgiving Day activities that should help get the whole family involved, both before and after the meal.
- Watch the parade. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is annual tradition held in New York City. It is broadcast across the country, so you can watch it no matter where you live. Turn it on in the morning while you’re cooking in the kitchen and you and the kids can enjoy the colorful balloons, great marching bands, and other performances.
- Thanksgiving games. Put a fall- or turkey-themed spin on many classic games for instant Thanksgiving fun. Try pin the tail on the turkey with brightly-colored strips of paper for the tail feathers. You can also play a “story in the round” where one person starts the story with a sentence and everyone goes around adding a sentence to enhance the story.
- Physical activity. If you have a lot of rough-housers in your family, organize a game of flag football. Also, everyone can take a post-meal, pre-dessert walk through the neighborhood.
- Pumpkin hunt. A fun game for young kids would be a mini pumpkin hunt. Just like an Easter egg hunt, hide miniature pumpkins throughout the house (and yard if the weather is nice) and see who can find the most pumpkins.
