This January at the North American International Auto Show, Cadillac confirmed that it would be leading the way in GM vehicle electrification. Hinting at its marvelous future, Cadillac unveiled its first fully-electric vehicle (EV) in the form of a sleek and sophisticated crossover.
Rather than taking aim at a fully-electric sedan, Cadillac recognized American drivers’ desire for capable, spacious, and smart crossover SUVs. As the president of Cadillac, Steve Carlisle, stated, “Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world. It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.” One look at the beautiful crossover makes Carlisle’s words ring true.
Although Cadillac hasn’t shared the EV’s name or release date, we couldn’t be more excited. We’re guessing that the release will be sooner rather than later, as Cadillac has pledged to release a new model approximately every six months through 2021. The new Cadillac EV also portends wonderful upcoming electric vehicles from GM’s other brands, as the same electric vehicle platform — reportedly named BEV3 — will be used in future GM vehicles as well. The versatile BEV3 platform is designed to be versatile, smart, and used in variously configured drivetrains, including front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive. With the new Cadillac EV crossover, the future of GM looks innovative and bright.
