Earlier in the year we mentioned that Cadillac was pushing to make a new flag ship model in the up and coming years. Unfortunately, Cadillac recently announced that they will be walking away from the project for a number of reasons. Initially, the plan was to build a high dollar, rear wheel drive “ultraluxury” sedan to mark the pinnacle of luxurious vehicles. The primary issue was going to be the price tag, which would easily break the $100,000 mark. Although there was some initial interest in the concept, Cadillac Executives felt that the brand wouldn’t be bolstered enough to validate the investment and production.
On the up side, Cadillac is still planning to build a range topping four-door in order to keep competitive against the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Although this new model won’t even come about until around 2016, the Cadillac ATS and the lineup leading Cadillac XTS are holding their own in their competitive markets. Whether they still have plans to create a new concept for their flagship model is still in speculation, but with such a push for a “ultraluxury” model, we here at Crest Cadillac feel that it won’t be long before they come up with a more practical to lead the company into the future.
