After a slightly failed attempt to sell original 2014 ELR’s, Cadillac decided to revise the model into something more appealing that addressed the previous model’s faults: hence, the 2016 ELR. However, just before the 2016 model was set to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the car was pulled from schedule and the company’s website.
According to an insider, the vehicle is much more autonomous than originally thought, and the technology is just not there yet. Developers are still working on the car to make it not only functional but safe, effective, and reliable.
Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen additionally made comments on the ELR line in an interview with GM Authority, saying there are definitely plans to add more variants to the ELR club, referring to the ELR as a “niche car.” However, he did not address the 2016 Cadillac ELR Delay.
It’s certainly disappointing that the 2016 Cadillac ELR has been delayed, but it’s in the best interest of both the company and the drivers to wait for the car to be complete before debuting it officially.
